The City of Crestwood administers a Sanitary Sewer Lateral Program which may be able to help if you experience problems with your sanitary sewer lateral.
Implemented in 1999, the Sanitary Sewer Lateral Program provides residents a means to repair failing sanitary sewer laterals without having to directly pay for these expensive repairs. A $28 assessment collected every year from each homeowner funds this program. While the program does not cover the cost of routine maintenance of the sanitary sewer line, it does pay for the repair of any broken section of a sewer lateral from outside the house foundation wall to MSD’s main sewer line.
Blocked Sewer
If your sewer becomes blocked, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Contact a plumber or sewer cleaning company to open the sewer lateral.
- Step 2: If the line cannot be opened, contact the Director of Public Works James Swingle at jswingle@cityofcrestwood.org. The City of Crestwood will arrange for the sewer lateral to be cabled and televised to determine the problem. If a sewer lateral is found to be broken, Public Works staff will coordinate the repair at no cost to the homeowner. For more information on this program, please contact Crestwood’s Public Works Department at 314-729-4720.
